me gusto barcelona!

my laptop and i are chillin' in shepard's naeme pub across from my theatre. i've just sorted out keaton's traveling details with him and have butterflies about seeing him tomorrow night!

i've barely got time for a blog, but want to write a blurb about barcelona before the spanish high wears off.

well we're [kathryn, jade, jake and myself] back in london and i'm sleep deprived as hell. i did not sleep the night before last, got a few hours last night, but now it's really hit me today.

barcelona exceeded my expectations and i was really hoping it was going to be great! we did this hop-on-hop-off bus thing that took us to all the sites. it was the best way see the city and travel as far as i've experienced and i will be doing it in every city i visit abroad in the future. seriously. here's the website: http://www.barcelona-on-line.es/eng/reserves/bus_turistic.htm

go there.

travel this way. it is so convenient. [no they are not paying me to say this although i would not mind if they did because i endorse it 100%]. we got to do so much in such a short time. the sight's were unbelievable.

gaudi is a magical architect/artist thing who created amazing buildings, sculptures, and art all over the city. his work is all like nothing i've ever seen before in the best way possible.

la sagrada familia is probably the single coolest building i've ever seen/touched/been in/experienced in general [i'll try and post pictures tomorrow]. people have been building it for over 100 years. and it's been under like 4 artistic directors [don't quote me on that]. the difference in leadership is evident as each side of the building is so different from the others. drip castle style, slug and lizard adorned, fruit filled icecream cone towers-- it is just crazy looking. the inside is just as intriguing and i cannot wait for it to be done [projected completion = 2020 and i am so there!]. we paid to go up in the towers and took the terrifying spiral stair cases through the stone passageways. the overhangs made your stomach flip in olymic medal-worthy ways as you looked out over dots of people. sweeeeeeeeeeeeet.

we walked the beautiful beach and collected rocks since there were no seashells in sight and shopped at the markets along the port. i bought some ab fab tye dye from a spanish hippie and fell in love with sangria after resistance because jake insisted i try it as a cultural experience.

we also went to a bull fight : (
i think my next club i start may be an anti bull murdering one.

our last night we got a touch of the famous spanish nightlife and let's just say spain lives up to it's party hardy reputation.

i had such a good time there and the people i traveled with were really fun too. i was skeptical before we left since i'm really only good friends with kathryn, but it all worked out and everyone was laughing the whole time.

well there are raised voices in the far right corner behind me and i am pretty sure my exit cue comes before a pub fight breaks out so i am off.

stonehenge rocks! ...get it? ; )

[blog i just got around to posting...]

today is my mom’s birthday and i miss her very much.

it will be so good to see her and ryry in just two more weeks. i wish i could have been with her today : (

it is 2:20am on a Saturday night. around 11 i made the decision to stay in tonight because i was “too tired” to go out. that worked well considering everyone will be back soon and i didn’t get any more sleep than they will tonight. haha. oh katie.

at least i got a little me time tonight. played some guitar, edited a few pictures, showered, and now i’m in bed blogging and writing out postcards. good me night.

today mario and i went to stonehenge and sailsbury on a day trip. Stonehenge was awesome. first of all today was probably the most gorgeous day weather-wise since we’ve been here. the crazy blue skies and glowing green grass only enhanced the magic of the rock ruins. there’s definitely a calming air around that place. sun worshippers? druid meeting place? aliens? if you know me at all you know how i love a good conspiracy theory ; )

oh everybody’s getting home. i hear whispers of boys that don’t live here going into the bedrooms of girls they shouldn’t. . .

saw god of carnage tonight. the actor who plays voldemort in the harry potter movies [btw i finished the 7th book!!!!!!!!!!!! ahh! LOVED IT.] was one of the hysterical 4 person cast. we waited by the backstage entrance afterwards and got to meet him and he even autographed my ticket. heheheeeee. what a great play. really i’ve enjoyed almost everything we’ve see here, which is quite a few. laundry list time.

  • romeo and juliet
  • hello goodbye
  • ‘we will rock you’ queen musical
  • the year of magical thinking
  • last train to nuerba
  • the city
  • avenue Q
  • brief encounters
  • king leer
  • god of carnage
  • merchant of Venice

my least favorite was the yawn-fest year of magical thinking followed by 3 of the 4 hours of the globe theatre’s king leer production and highly predictable hello goodbye.

[on a side note the main singer of shinedown’s voice gives me chills]

sheep sheep sheep everywhere. little white dots on rolling hills. green shades patchworked as far as the eye can see, spanning across the undulating horizon. yellow wild flowers scattered near the winding roads.

3:31 am. ok bed time. i’ve been up for 21 hours today.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

love katie.

a london low

yesterday was not good.

it's been a not-so-hot week in london [although i feel bad complaining--i'm in europe after all!]. and i have been feeling a bit in the dumps lately. it's a combination of really missing everyone at home [i wish i could see heda, brock, bekah, channing, tim, jim, & shealy. like now. summer is for catching up with highschool friends and that seems to be a little difficult to do this summer... :( boo.] plus camp bearskin started sunday. and i am not in the beautiful mountains sleeping under the crystal clear sierra night sky with my bmc family. i want to be with them also. and then there’s other stupid circumstances.

nothing like purging your mind on the worldwideweb to make you feel better, right?
i'm working for tovah feld shuh at the shaw theatre [i spaced out her last name incase she googles herself!].

click on a link to learn more! haha

ACTRESS TOVAH:
http://www.tovahfeldshuh.com/home.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tovah_Feldshuhhttp://www.imdb.com/name/nm0271165/ SHAW THEATRE:http://www.theshawtheatre.com/ i swear she is in some way responsible for the reputation of the the word diva and i don't think i've ever done so much ass-kissing in my whole life as i hve the last few weeks. she scarcely praises [but when she does she really means it...so i guess that's nice...ish...] and she is lightning-fast to scold or condescendingly correct. tovah has a total disregard for anyone's feelings or well-being besides herself. i mean this and am not just saying it because i fell prey to her merciless, narcissistic absorption, although she did explode at me yesterday and literally yelled in my face for five minutes.

i bit the inside of my cheeks so hard that the left side bled and is all fleshy and gross today but i refused to break down in front of her. of course i cried in the bathroom about it right afterwards but i was not going to let her know she got to me! haha. oh the world of egotistical actors.

it's a lengthy story, i'm not going to try to explain right now. i'm in an internet cafe and with my vulnerable emotional state i want to avoid activities that could possibly cause public mental break downs. JOKE. well sort of. ask me if you want to hear the story later- i'm sure i will be in the mood to vent soon. or perform voodoo magic. haha.

rehearsal didn't go that well today either. kathryn and i were dropping lines like butterfingered jugglers and george didn’t seem too impressed. he always gives positive feedback, which i was really looking forward to today [considering…] but he didn’t have much to say.

i promise things really aren’t terrible though. i just miss my family and friends and had a bad experience with a famous person who acts like a famous person. the combination just takes toll on a person’s disposition.

enough about all that. sheesh. just call me debbie downer…

i must now write at least two positive things.

#1 we had a guided tour through the globe theatre today and an acting workshop in the globe rehearsal space with a cute actor named trevor. that was fun. i was bitingly sarcastic the whole time [semi-bitter mood + high bloodsugar] but it kept him laughing.

#2 i am wearing a very stylish london-esque outfit right now

AND KEATON JUST CALLED! that makes #3.

ooh! and whitney and i met up the other night and had the best time! oh my gosh being with her again was a blast. and i get to see her again next monday. that counts as #4 and #5 if not # 6 too.

see? so many positive things going on. can’t let an old broadway broad get me down. and i bet she didn’t get a package from her mom today [#7].

oh internet, thanks for listening. i feel a bit better.

love, katie.

last night was opening night for golda's balcony at the shaw theatre where i'm interning.

man oh man.

that was the most crazy hectic day ever but as soon as the show started, my sigh of relief was fantastically calming. i'm in the playbill of the show as "tovah's personal assistant." [seeing my name in the playbill of a professional theatre company in london as anything thrills beyond reason without reason] but what this glorious recognition actually means is that i'm tovah's bitch. haha. she snaps, i jump. she snaps again, i jump higher to execute a backhand spring before landing in a split. she may blink in an unspoken, undectable approval. or maybe it's just becauses a spect of dust has landed in her eye.

that's her calling now.

looooooove.

fun night out! what started as a roomie date to the london eye and dinner turned into a spontaneous night of mayhem. haha. kathryn and i stopped at the internet café to get tickets to the london eye and the address of our restaurant only to find both were booked for the night so we headed off to the tube to find a fun stop to eat dinner at. we got of at picadilly circus where we stumbled upon that place of our favorite london past time—a casino. and quite a ritzie one at that! lucky thing we were dressed to the nines. we had to get registered with casino cards and be photographed by cameras- the whole shebang. the casino was beautiful with chandeliers and red furnishings. we tried to play roulette but somehow failed miserably at figuring out exactly what we were betting on so we switched to slots where much less strategy is required.

i put in 20 pounds and ended up winning 33. katryn spent about 50 pouns but won 83. needless to say we were ecstatic. i absolutely love being able to gambol here. [is the thrill in actually doing it or the fact that it would be illegal if i were home in the US?] we’ve come out on top every time too! so then we set out to celebrate our winnings and ate at a delicious hummus bar that was in my little tour of London guide book! i was psyched that we got to do something out of my book! it was the creamiest hummus with chicken, sundried tomatoes, green chilies, and lemon garlic sauce. that and a basket of warm pitas is the perfect celebration dinner. after the delicious dinner we wandered through little china to soho where the nightlife put Athens to shame several times over again. it’s extremely gay-friendly and the atmosphere was lively and fun. we hung out at bar 49 until we realized the tube would be closing down soon. not wanting to be stranded, we raced outside and flagged down a bicycle-carriage dude.

he took us on a near-death bike ride weaving all about with our screams only egging him on further. we rushed to the tube where we met a beautiful new zealand man who invited us back to his place. for some reason we declined. [we're still not really sure why or how that happened.] we were yelling our number to him as he tried to put it in his phone as the door of the tube literally closed on his head. maybe it just wasn't meant to be.

a little distressed from losing the new zealand dream-man, we set off to replace him immediately in order to heal our broken hearts. haha.

we walked into a pub to find the bar had just closed but met some austrailin guys there who took us down the street to the mango lounge [woot woot] where kathryn and i honored the phrase "dance the night away." we ended up back at their hotel bar talking and laughing until the sun began to rise. that was our exit cue and we wandered back to our flat, pumped to get up in a few hours for the stratford apon avon trip [highlights: it was beautiful, i got my hair cut, toured shakspeare's house, and saw an ab fab performance of the merchant of venice.]

whitney is in town!!!! hopefully i'll get to see her soon! maybe tonight...? and also meet up with some couchsurfers i've been talking to since before i left the US.

MY MOM, LITTLE BROTHER, AND KEATON ARE COMING IN TWO WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gotta get back to work.
love katie

the much delayed paris blog

paris was wonderful.

george and i’s first day started at 5:15 am when i woke up to finish packing after 2 hrs of sleep. we left the flat at 6 to catch the tube the st. pancras [that sounds a lot like st. pancreas which makes me giggle and envision little insulin bottles with wings and golden halos] train station where we caught a train that took us to a bus station near luton airport. after a little commotion at the bus station about not having the right ticket to continue on to luton we forked over some poundage to amend the situation and hopped on the bus that took us to the airport. we waited for like 2 hours for the gate number to appear on the giant screen, which it never did. finally i asked an attendant where we were supposed to go since our flight took off in a half our and we still had not been assigned a gate. she said we were at E17 and that they had already started boarding. [sweet.] so we take off running and get to the gates where a sign mocks us with its superior knowledge that gates E15-E20 are a 15 minutes away down the concourse.

half hour until take off.

10 minute taxi time.

15 minute walk.

crap.

we flew down the concourse and arrived, panting, as the lines of people disappeared into the according-style tunnel leading to the plane. george and i celebrated with a high-five and promptly passed out on one another. there was a bit more traveling drama once we got to france but really just more of the same stuff plus the whole language barrier thing…

we FINALLY found our hostel-which was actually a legit hotel that just advertised on hosetworld.com- after walking the same street probably 8 times. it was really nice and once again george and i passed out upon contact with a cushioned furniture. keaton’s voice on the phone an hour later was one of the only things that could have possibly pulled me out of my exhausted state with a smile. i was soo excited to see him and left the hotel in a fury. adrenaline racing, i waited and waited what seemed like forever and then we spotted each other! we ran and embraced in an academy award-worthy reunion as keaton picked me up and spun me around.

the three of us ate at a little café (the first of about 50 that weekend) and split up so george could go to a church thing and keaton and i could go exploring. we stumble across le sacre couer where we got bracelet raped (ask me the africa story if you want details) and listened to an open mic on the gigantic steps of the cathedral. hundreds of people were our there drinking and singing horrible beatles renditions. it was fabulous.

[<--sacre coure and all the people on the steps for the outdoor concert.]

that night we wondered the city until about 2 am. we found our way to notre dome and then i exultantly hailed a taxi. yes exultantly.

the next morning we slept until the maid rap-tap-tapped on the door and we packed and vacated with impressive speed. we had to change hostels because there was no availability at the place we had been staying that night, so we set off to find our new beds that my mom had booked for us. walking to the new hostel we noticed some strange things along the way… sex shops started cropping up more and more frequently….the names off cafes got more and more inappropriate…we stopped infront of our hostel, directly across the street from dirty dicks and a block from the moulin rouge. i laughed aloud. thanks tammy ; )

we spent the day sight seeing- the seine river, arc de triomphe, eiffel tower, the louvre, café upon café, the famous champs elysées… taking in all the sights and sounds was wonderful. that night we met up with some friends of friends and went out to a bar and a discotech. their english was amazing, and we had so much fun talking and laughing with them all night. the boys gave in and danced with me a bit to the american 70s rock hits that pulsated through the bar. we wound up back at the hostel about 5am and slipped into unconsciousness immediately.

the next afternoon [needless to say we slept in] the gang split up again as george rejoined his church friends while keaton and i set off to find the jewish, gay, and gay-jewish district of paris. we found some of the most amazing yamakas in existence. [harry potter, power rangers, and pokemon just to give you a taste.] some quality time was spent in the gay bookstore where i bought the funniest “guide to life” book ever, and we also browsed through the rest of the star of david-adorned shops.

we met up with george at the notre dame where keaton and i were filmed for a french fashion television show thanks to keatty's plaid shorts. since it was a sunday,we got to experience the cathedral during mass, marveling at the sights of masses of people praying/ taking pictures, sounds of organ chords and harmonic voices, and smells of burning incense.

the sun sank and we headed to the eiffel tower. i begged the boys to go to it again so i could take pictures of it at night in all it's luminescent glory. it was beautiful. literally minutes after we arrived there was an electric party on the tower. sparkling lights glitter every hour on the hour after dark. what a wonderful surprise!
the day ended at an absolutely adorable french cafe along a cobblestone street complete with crepes, wine, and live music. portrait artists and those little rose-selling-men mulled the--

ok. paris was two weekeds ago and i stillhave not finished this blog. a lot more stuff happened and all of it was thrilling. i will end the "blog de pari" there because so much more is going on in london right now but i feel like i can't write about it until i've finished my paris memoirs. too bad, paris. you were fantastic, but i have to move on now ; )

[this is supposed to be like the cloud dancing scene in moulin rouge during the elephant love long medley...yep. went there. hahahahaaaaaaaaaa]

all my love,
katie
